The title of this post reflects many times in my life where I felt spiritually far away from God, like God was nowhere around…but countless times in my life when I have found myself in this place I have had to face the “UGLY TRUTH.”
God did not leave me, he did not go anywhere else… I LEFT HIM.
So here are the 5 biggest excuses we leave God!
1. We are busy with other things…example I gotta watch the game instead of spending time with God.
2. We are unhappy with our church, our small group, our home life…etc…
3. We don’t connect with God when we are at church or around other Christians. – that is another post in itself.
4. We get caught up in a great relationship. – example you meet someone and they take God’s place.
5. We have no desire to love God more.
I know you would never agree that you have been too busy, too unhappy with your christian meeting place, too disconnected from other believers, too caught up in that new lady friend of yours, or no desire to love God more…because honestly if the Pastor ask us on Sunday if we want to love God more…we all raise our hands out of pure Spiritual Pride…
But let’s get real…Have you left God?
The source of our unhappiness, disconnection, and replacement problems all goes to the fact that spiritually we may have went south to a place that we feel like God is now where around.
I have been there…that’s why I’m writing this…here’s how to come back to Him and have that desire to love Him more..
1. CHASE AFTER GOD…LIKE YOU WOULD CHASE AFTER YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER THAT WAS RUNNING AWAY FROM YOU…DON’T GIVE UP BE PERSISTENT.
2. READ GOD’S WORD AND SPEND TIME IN PRAYER LIKE IT’S PIZZA FROM PIZZA HUT…DEVOUR IT.
3. COMMAND GOD’S ATTENTION BY STEPPING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE TO CONNECT WITH OTHER BELIEVERS EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE IT.
4. PRAY FOR GOD TO GIVE YOU A DESIRE FOR HIM THAT BURNS DEEP…A FLAME THAT ENVELOPES YOU.
5. NEVER LET ANYTHING REPLACE GOD. KEEP HIM AT THE TOP, NUMBER ONE PLACE, NO MATTER HOW GOOD LOOKING THEY MAY BE OR HOW MUCH YOU WANT THAT NEW CAR…NOTHING REPLACES HIM.
If you can take these 5 things and start doing them…I promise you will feel God’s presence back in your life. I’m doing this daily…and each one of these is hard…but worth it.
I would rather have God!
