When Creativity Feels Empty.

October has been a fun month of creativity. I’ve spent the last 25 days taking on a challenge each day to stir up the creativity inside me. Something I choose to do every day is challenge myself. I’m not perfect at completing all the challenges I set out to do, but I’m consistently reminding myself to advocate for that creative streak that lives inside me. You have a creative streak too!

In scripture, it says in Ephesians 2:10 that “We are God’s creation. He created us to belong to Christ Jesus. Now we can do good works. Long ago God prepared these works for us to do.” If we also are created in the likeness and image of God then we are also creative beings that have been inspired by the ultimate creator.

Your creative streak is more than painting, singing, writing, nurturing, cooking, communicating, and influencing. Your streak is infused with the Spirit of God. This is what makes all you do within that creative realm become good works that draw people closer to God.

Now, the opposite can be true if you are not infused with the Spirit of God and are infused with the Spirit of doubt, comparison, frustration, discouragement, and perfectionism. Those types of infusions can derail your creative streak and cause you to be inspired by not being influential to the Kingdom. Using your creativity for the Kingdom means you lean and press into God’s creative masterful hand and allow him to guide you.

Right before the most creative art piece was created in our Universe (Creation) the world was full of darkness. The infusions were dark, cold, and empty. Then…the spirit of God began to hover over the waters…check out what happens!

Scripture says in Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth didn’t have any shape. And it was empty. There was darkness over the surface of the waves. At that time, the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light.”

Light happened when the Spirit of God connected with God’s creativity. Was God gifted? YES! Was God anointed? YES! Was God special? YES! Was God creative? YES! You are gifted, anointed, special and creative but the difference maker is the Spirit of God dwelling in you. That makes all the difference in how your creative edge impacts those around you.

We have all been impacted today by the story and innovation of creation! The clouds, trees, animals, and human bodies were all influenced that day when the Spirit of God hovered over the waters. What are you doing today to be creative and impact the Kingdom?

Are you infused with doubt, or are you infused with faith?

Are you infused with feelings of discouragement, or are you infused with peace?

Are you infused with comparison and the need to be perfect, or are you infused with confidence and character?

I would challenge you today to lean into the Spirit of God dwelling in you and allow him to guide you as you connect people to the Faith. What you have is great, but without the Spirit of God, it’s empty.
