Sitting at the table listening to a “new” friend speak of the tough times she was facing my heart strings were being pulled at intensely. Her husband had just received the devastating word, cancer. With two small children, a business to run, a family and marriage to care for, my friend needed nothing short of a miracle. My heart was growing in compassion and empathy as I listened intently. All of the sudden she made a statement that make me stop and breathe in deep.
Before I tell you the statement let me take you back to when my coffee was hot. As soon as we sat down for coffee she asked me how me and my family were adjusting to the new ministry life in San Francisco. I immediately began to complain and rumble on about all the things I wished were different and that I missed from home. So yes, I felt really dumb when she said this one statement. I believe it was a total “God moment.”
She stops me to say, “I would drop everything in a heartbeat to do what you and your husband are doing.” It still gives me chills just thinking about it. In that moment the tears just started flowing because I was overwhelmed with God’s hand at that moment. I’m fortunate to be able to travel to the other side with my family to do the very thing we love to do together, minister! I was taking this opportunity I have for granted!
“I would drop everything in a heartbeat to do what you and your husband are doing.”
I”m sure you’ve done this before! I’m sure you’ve taken time, people, things, your jobs, or your family reunions for granted! We’re all guilty!
David wrote a song of praise in his time of thankfulness! He says in 2 Samuel 22:21-25 (MSG)
21-25 God made my life complete
when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I cleaned up my act,
he gave me a fresh start.
Indeed, I’ve kept alert to God’s ways;
I haven’t taken God for granted.
Every day I review the ways he works,
I try not to miss a trick.
I feel put back together,
and I’m watching my step.
God rewrote the text of my life
when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.
Today don’t miss a trick, don’t take God for granted because He is rewriting the text of our lives one page at a time.
Take the season you are in and appreciate it for what it is. It’s a season that is apart of the chapter that God is writing! Don’t miss the opportunities that you may see even burdensome or frustrating! Those are slots of time that God is choosing to develop you into His man or His woman! We all need to stop and appreciate where we are and what God is doing even if it’s not easy. Once you do this, it makes the road less troubled and more interesting to travel!
